If your A/C is 10 years old or older you could get better comfort and lower utility bills by selecting a higher efficiency unit. Today’s systems range from 13 SEER* to 21 SEER* depending on the size and configuration of the unit and how it is matched with the right coil and furnace. *SEER – Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a rating of air conditioning systems to determine energy savings. Just like MPG or miles per gallon would be a factor in deciding to purchase a new car, the higher the SEER rating the more efficient the AC is. Older systems typically operate at 60% less efficient than the new units we install.
mileage. A higher SEER rating means a more energy-efficient air conditioning system. As of mid-January of 2006, the U.S. Department of Energy required home cooling systems to meet a minimum rating of 13.0 SEER. Carrier was one of the first leading air conditioner manufacturers to fully support this environmentally sound mandate.

Types Of Air Conditioning Systems
If you already have forced air heating and or cooling you could have a split system with a remote air conditioning condenser or heat pump compressor. The outdoor unit houses a condenser coil like a radiator to your car, a compressor and evaporator. This unit actually removes the heat from inside your house on a scorching summer day-through the transfer from a cold surface absorbing heat and refrigerant is pumped to the outside and blown away with the fan. Coil or cold box is put downstream from a heating source gas furnace or upstream with electric radiant heat. The circulating fan distributes air throughout the house. When this work is being performed it would be a good idea to have your ducts cleaned or consider replacing the duct system. New registers are always available and they help to cut down noise in bedrooms and provide better comfort.
Self Contained Systems
Self contained air conditioning and heat pumps or Window unit AC, wall furnace, PTAC, portable or evaporative cooler that operate together in one packaged unit.
Ductless Split System
Outdoor heating and cooling unit or heat pump connected to one or multiple air handling units. Very efficient and quiet these units are used a lot in other countries and more and more families choose these to cool and heat room additions, upstairs rooms and computer or audio/video rooms to protect their investment from overheating.
